I first met Ben at Haley and Chase’s wedding, where he was helping them out (providing their wedding cinematography) and I’m so glad we met there! It was such a pleasure meeting and getting to know he and Connie as well, because, man, these two know how to throw a party. This day was the perfect mix of emotion and just a plain good time. =D Connie and Ben started out their day preparing at the Hilton Garden Inn in Riverhead, NY– a splendid location, as the hotel’s bridal suite actually resembled a small beauty salon! As a wedding photographer in LI, you always need to be prepared for every situation, and in this case, since the suite itself was right in the middle of the building, so of course there were no windows to be found. Not a big problem when you can simply bring in a 26″ Westcott Rapidbox Octa and create/use the light in the room to our advantage for some pretty cool shots. In truth, it’s always nice to escape from the norm and push yourself to be more creative. Both in the media field, Connie and Ben chose another terrific location for their reception- Raphael’s Vineyard in Peconic, NY. Stocked nicely with incredible light and terrific nooks and crannies, it was a blast finding some interesting angles (They stocked some pretty decent wine, so I’ve heard, too) and making use of the rustic space! After having their first look there, and photographing a few wedding details, we then moved onto the ceremony at the beautiful St. Patrick’s Church in Southold, NY. Tears and laughter make for a powerful combination, and resulted in some lovely black and white images. Afterward, we went back to Raphael’s Vineyard, and enjoyed a European-style ordered wedding, starting with cocktail hour, then having the speeches and dinner, followed by all the dancing thereafter, and, WOW. Perhaps another word for, “dancing”, should be coined for this group. Almost every guest was up there busting a move, thanks to the incredible band (which Connie’s brother plays in)- Artificial Flavor, one of the best wedding bands I’ve ever seen in action in my career. This crew seriously knew how to play to the crowd and they sounded truly phenomenal doing it. Thanks, also, to my all-star second shooter- Haris, yet again, for helping provide some stellar shots as well. Enjoy the photos!!
